Introduction to Business

When you enter the business world, you will most likely be facing competition not only from home but also from abroad. As it becomes harder and harder to separate the domestic business climate from the growing global economy, you have to understand international business. Thus, business today is to have a global perspective and tract the changes of environments that affect to the business. If you observe any change that can threat to the business, you must convert the threat and turn it into the opportunity for the company. For a company to be successful, its strategy and business model have to be well matched to the company’s present and future environment. This entails studying market trends, listening to customers and anticipating their changing needs and expectations, scrutinizing the business possibilities that spring from technological developments, building the firm’s market position via acquisitions or new-product introductions, and pursuing ways to strengthen the firm’s competitive capabilities

 
Course Objectives
Understand the concept of the business management and describe types of businesses. In the ext book, the students can know how to start doing the business from the scratch and the existing business. The purpose of the studying is also explained how to act the characteristics of entrepreneurs to be successful in business management.

ORGANIZING THE BUSINESS ENTERPRISE
     
- Discussion the elements that influence a firm’s organizational structure
- Describe specialization and departmentalization
- Distinguish between responsibility and authority, delegation, and accountability and explain the differences in decision making in centralization structures

MANAGING HUMAN RESOURCES
       
- Define human resource management and explain how managers plan for human resource
- Identify the steps involved in staffing a company
- Explain how to organizations can develop workers’ skills and manage workers who do not perform well
- Discuss the importance of wages and salaries, incentive, and benefit programs on attracting and keeping skilled workers

Target Audience

The course of the Introduction to Business is designed for the online students who are from government officers, private individual, the company’s, the organization’s staffs, students from other fields willing to study it or pursue bachelor of business administration through distance learning.

 
Grading and Student Assessment

The grading system for PPIU online students is the same as is used to evaluate and reward PPIU students attending classroom courses at the University in Phnom Penh. Students can view the grades on the online Grade book.

 
In this course, a final grade will be calculated based on the following:
  • Class attendance and participation – 10%
  • Assignments – 20%
  • Mid-semester examination – 20%
  • Final examination – 50%
  •
